01 / Overview

What this package actually contains.

The logistics project combined spatial optimisation, predictive modelling and cost analysis. It located secondary distribution hubs, estimated freight rates from scraped text data and compared road-only transport with a road-and-rail alternative.

Objectives

  • 01Select secondary hubs that cover all 764 dealership locations within a practical radius.
  • 02Build a freight-rate model from semi-structured market data.
  • 03Quantify the economics of road versus multi-modal transport.

Decision model

Network, search, cost, recommendation.

The page prioritises the decision model and the assumptions behind the recommended plan.

Decision layer01

Dealer coordinates

764 locations and a 200 km candidate coverage rule.

Decision layer02

Hub search

Simulated annealing plus greedy selection for seven hubs.

Decision layer03

Freight features

Scraped rates, keyword extraction and Random Forest regression.

Decision layer04

Cost model

Road at RMB 1.8/km versus rail at RMB 1.0/km plus delay cost.

Decision layer05

Decision output

Coverage map, hub set and multi-modal saving estimate.

02 / Package highlights

What this work demonstrates.

  • Documents a simulated-annealing and greedy site-selection process for seven secondary hubs.
  • Combines freight-rate modelling with a multi-modal road-and-rail cost comparison.
  • Includes two registered software copyrights that formalise the logistics decision systems.

03 / Decision model

How the search and cost model fit together.

01

Spatial coverage

The coverage problem was treated as a candidate-site selection task. A simulated-annealing search explored combinations, while a greedy rule selected useful hubs from the candidate pool. The 200 km radius bounded the feasible service area and kept the model interpretable for operations stakeholders.

  • The dataset contained the coordinates of 764 dealerships.
  • Seven secondary hubs were selected, including Huzhou and Nanjing.
  • The final set reached full coverage under the modelled radius.
02

Freight-rate prediction

Freight-rate data was scraped with EasySpider. ChatGLM extracted keyword features from the semi-structured listings, and a Random Forest model was tuned with random search. This handled nonlinear relationships between route characteristics and price better than a hand-written formula.

03

Modal economics

The road-versus-rail comparison combined distance, per-kilometre price and an explicit delay penalty. The point was not that rail is always cheaper, but that the break-even depends on shipment value, time sensitivity and the cost of delay.

04 / Key code

Core optimisation logic.

Only verified source excerpts and pseudocode taken from the project papers are shown.

Source availability

The original executable code is not present in the supplied project folder, so no reconstructed code is shown here. The report remains available above; source-level details can be discussed on request.

Modelling notes

  • The model separated network design from freight pricing so each assumption could be inspected.
  • Spatial coverage, machine learning and cost accounting were delivered as one decision workflow.
  • The project also produced two registered software copyrights for the logistics systems.

Limitations / next steps

  • The 200 km radius and road/rail rates should be recalibrated with current operational data.
  • A production routing model would need service frequency, capacity, emissions and inventory constraints.
