01 / Overview

What this package actually contains.

The project treated timing as a model-selection problem rather than a single indicator rule. Technical signals were converted into a feature set, several model families were compared and stacked, and parameter choices were revisited as factor behaviour changed.

Objectives

  • 01Turn Bollinger Band, ADX, EMA and related indicators into reproducible features and signal rules.
  • 02Compare tree-based models, a sequence model and nearest-neighbour classification under the same backtesting workflow.
  • 03Reduce dependence on one fixed parameter set by combining grid search with clustering-based regime grouping.

Research frame

Question, method, evidence, constraint.

The emphasis is on assumptions, model choices and what the evidence does and does not show.

02 / Package highlights

What this work demonstrates.

  • Compares Bollinger Band, EMA and ADX strategy designs and documents backtesting decisions.
  • Combines KNN, XGBoost, LightGBM, Random Forest and LSTM in a heterogeneous ensemble workflow.
  • Explains threshold optimisation and clustering-based factor updates with risk controls and limitations.

03 / Method

How the experiment was constructed.

01

From indicator rules to model features

Each strategy was decomposed into observable inputs rather than left as a hard-coded buy/sell rule. Bollinger periods and standard-deviation multiples were varied, while ADX and EMA contributed trend-strength and direction context. The resulting matrix supported both simple classification and ensemble learning.

  • Indicator parameters were separated from model parameters so each could be evaluated independently.
  • Signal rules were preserved alongside raw indicator values to retain interpretability.
  • Five-minute bars created a high-noise target, making threshold selection part of the model rather than an afterthought.
02

Stacking and adaptive parameters

A heterogeneous stack combined tree models, an LSTM and KNN. The first-stage models captured different nonlinearities, while a meta-learner combined their outputs. A two-layer grid search selected Bollinger parameters, and K-means clustering of SuperTrend performance supported later parameter updates when the factor regime changed.

  • Tree models handled tabular nonlinearities and interactions efficiently.
  • LSTM introduced a temporal representation but required stricter sequence construction.
  • Clustering was used as a regime-aware parameter policy, not as a direct price predictor.
03

Backtest discipline

The workflow produced a research report as well as code. The analysis intentionally separated in-sample fitting from the historical evaluation output and documented where the model was fragile. The current limitation is that production-grade transaction costs, slippage and live execution constraints would need a more explicit simulation layer.

04 / Key code

Core research implementation.

Only verified source excerpts and pseudocode taken from the project papers are shown.

Source availability

The original executable code is not present in the supplied project folder, so no reconstructed code is shown here. The report remains available above; source-level details can be discussed on request.

Research notes

  • Feature definitions, parameter choices and model outputs were kept in one research trail so the strategy could be re-run.
  • The ensemble was evaluated as a classification problem with an explicit decision threshold, not only as a raw probability output.
  • The report discusses model limitations and risk controls alongside the backtest results.

Limitations / next steps

  • A production version should add realistic fees, slippage, liquidity constraints and execution delay.
  • Regime clusters need forward-only fitting to avoid information leakage in live deployment.
